7 volunteering activities, one for each day of the week, 442 direct beneficiaries, 113 volunteers and over 400 hours of volunteering. This was for us the National Volunteering Week, 11 – 17th of may 2015.
The week started by invlving the local journalists in a simple and rewarding volunteering activity: cooking lunch for disadvantaged children in Humanitas ProDeo Foundation. The team spirit and big smiles were present during the shopping, cooking and serving of the meal while we were enjoying the children’s battlle with teh huge hamburger and icecream. We are also happy to announce that the journalists decided to continue volunteering for these children and are planning to organise a party for the 1st of june, children’s day.
Tuesday we talked about consumerism and responsible shopping while collecting clothes for disadvantaged families. Everyone was invited o clean-up the closets and bring good things that they don’t use anymore. We did some exchanges and donated the rest of the stuff.
Wednesday we took advantage of the spring sun and went outside to read together in the centre of the town, promoting the use of the public space for recreational activities and to promote intergenerational solidarity in supporting a cause.
Thursday was peer-to-peer education day, when our young volunteers taught their colleagues about vlunteering and it’s importance for the community and also for your personal and professional development.
Friday and Saturday we went out on the street again, focusing on children and organising for them streen animation activities. The children from Anina and Resita gave us back a lot of positive energy.
Sunday we celebrated and sayd thank you to our volunteers through a day in nature, full of outdoor activities . We learned about the Semenic - Cheile Carasului National Park that we visited, we challenged our limits through rock climbing and rapel and we understood the importance of volunteering for nature and the environment.
